The village of Stoupa has easily earned the title “fairy of the Messinian”.
The newly built village that evolved at a fast pace into a famous tourist resort. Its original name was Potamos, from the river that crossed it, but it was renamed Stoupa from the pots that the natives put in the sea to soften and process them easily. The two scenic, shallow, sandy and organized beaches with its clear waters attract visitors from all over the world. The diversity of the landscape is unique. True gifts of nature, rivers, unbelievable caves, harbors, islets and the Castle Hill. Excursions in the wider area offer strong emotions. Restaurants, taverns and cafes on the beach cover all tastes gastronomically.
Especially the beautiful coast of Kalogria has been known to the end of the world because in 1917 Kazantzakis and Zorbas lived there. There they met, their friendship tied, and the famous writer inspired the unique masterpiece of Life and State of Alexis Zorbas.
At a short distance is the village of Lefktron, from which the first families descended and slowly built Stoupa. The city of Leuktro is ancient. It was destroyed many times and its ancient acropolis was occupied by Franks and Venetians.
Location:
Stoupa is 45 km (around 1 hour trip from Kalamata) and is located after Kardamili. While travelling there you will pass from a scenery and graphic landscape of wild and amazing Mani prefecture.
